FOMSO INTRODUCTION

A group of concerned Ceylonese had a series of meetings in early 2003 to discuss various issues facing the community especially its future direction. Arising out of these deliberations a Ceylonese Community Forum was held on 5th October 2003 at the Sheraton Hotel, Subang. The objective of this forum was to chart the future direction of the community and to bring together the various Ceylonese-based organisations to work together for the best interest of the community.

At this meeting it was resolved the formation of an umbrella body to be known as the “ Federation of Malaysian Ceylonese Organisation (FOMCO) under the Societies Act 1966.

Prior to the submission of the application for registration of FOMCO, the organising committee mandated to seek registration, decided to rename the organisation as the Federation of Malaysian Sri Lankan Organisations (FOMSO) to reflect the current reference to Ceylon and Sri Lanka.

The application was submitted on 1st April 2004 and approved on 21st June 2006 under Registration Number 0711-06 WKL
